Ägeri Ranger Bowl
The Zurich Intruders kicked off their 5th season with a surprise second place finish in the 2016 edition of the Ranger Bowl in Oberaegeri, Switzerland last Sunday. A blend of new faces and old jerseys lead a 27-0 thumping of the ASEM Raptors in the first game, as multiple interceptions by the new look Intruders Defense and balanced passing attack lead the way in the shutout victory.
Though previous match ups have been unkind to the Grey and Orange, a key fourth down stop gave way to a last minute game winning drive against cross-town rivals ASZV Mockingbirds. The final group game ended in a close, controversial loss to the St. Gallen Vipers, but the two earlier wins and slim point differential were enough to win the group and secure a semi-final date with the Zurich Renegades.
A day of historic victories continued, as the Intruders took care of business against the Renegades, besting their Zurich rivals for the first time in team history in convincing 1fashion. Even though the Intruders would play bridesmaids once again to the battle tested Vipers in the championship game, a resurgent defense and revamped roster set the stage for a solid start and playoff aspirations for the new season.
